The Rain in Dallas
I was very new to Dallas.
At lunch time, one day, I had some errands to do, and despite the rain, I left the office to do them.
The rain got heavier, and fairly new to Texas, I called a new friend and said: "It is pouring." Friend laughed and told me that this rain was just a light shower. The water was coming straight down and I needed the wipers on high to clear enough away fast enough to see where I was going. But this was just a light shower?
I got to the first place on my list and I put a notebook over my head and sprinted in. Just a shower? Not highly likely, I thought.
When I came out 15 minutes later, I learned what pouring really means in Texas. The water was coming down like a waterfall and there was no way I could get to the car. I waited. I learned patience while waiting. Finally, I realized that if I didn't leave, I would miss an early afternoon meeting. So I made a run for it, getting soaking wet.
When I got back to the office, The rain was still coming down as heavily as when I left the store. So I called the same friend, and said, "OK, is it pouring now?"
"Pouring?" he said, "It's not even raining."
And that was how I learned that the weather in one part of Dallas has nothing to do with the weather in another part. Just go a block or a mile, and the weather may change.
